File Extension Pps

The .pps file extension has four known associations including Microsoft PowerPoint, ArcView from ESRI, Corel's Paint Shop Pro, and Personal Producer Storyboard. The PowerPoint association is the most common, being used as the extension for PowerPoint slideshows. The extension only applies to Office 2003 and earlier versions, as Microsoft updated the extension to .ppsx in later versions. The .pps format is identical to .ppt, just as .ppsx and .pptx are identical. The reason for using different extensions is to tell Windows how to treat the file.

I really do love FileCure because it's so easy to use - you don't have to be some kind of computer guru to get just what you need!

Plug and play? Not even close. I spent a lot of time trying to get my new, so-called 'plug and play' scanner to work. I was about ready to take it back. ParetoLogic FileCure got it working and saved me a needless trip (and gas!!) back to the store.

I have to admit I'm no computer geek. When something goes wrong, I usually have to call someone to fix it and it costs me a lot of money. When my printer wouldn't work, a friend of mine suggested I try ParetoLogic FileCure a try. I figured it was worth a shot because I was going to have to pay for a geek anyway. I was so happy when it worked... and worked properly!

I figured the graphics card my grandson gave me was broken when I couldn't get it work on my computer. It turns out that I just didn't have the right driver. ParetoLogic FileCure got it workin.

Hello FileCure folks:

I can't thank you enough for this great product. I just bought a new Vista machine and had been having all kinds of problems. First it was my screen and once I got that fixed it was the printer . Finally, my son suggested I try your product. It worked great and continues to keep my computer working. Thanks you.

Reggie E., N. Dakota

I hate paying a lot of money for anything. That's why I buy mostly used computer equipment. Last week I thought I got taken when I bought a scanner. It just would not work. ParetoLogic Driver Cure got it working. With the updates, it makes sure my stuff will keep working and that I don't have to pay more money.

I work at a school so my mom thinks I am some kind of computer whiz. I have wasted so much time trying to get her stuff to work. Our IT guy suggested I try ParetoLogic FileCure. It has been a godsend and has saved me a lot of wasted hours. My mom and I can't thank you enough.

Carol S., Saskatchewan

My wife bought me a new Vista system, and ever since I have had problems with some of my hardware. I saw FileCure, and decided to give it a shot. Ever since, the Vista and my hardware have been working great. Thanks!

Nick Shultz, Canberra, Australia

I upgraded my system to Vista, and my printer started to act funny. No error messages, but it just wasn't working quite right. I read that drivers could sometimes be the problem. I looked online and saw FileCure. After downloading FileCure, my printer works great. You guys rock!

The .pps file when double-clicked, will open in a player and be ready to begin the slideshow, whereas the .ppt file will open in PowerPoint and be ready for editing. This feature was developed as a means of starting a presentation without having to go through PowerPoint. A .pps file can be renamed with a .ppt extension and vice-versa without the data being affected. The same cannot be said about the .ppsx and .pptx extensions. Those two extensions must remain intact for them to be used properly by Windows.

More Info Regarding File Extension Pps

PowerPoint .pps files can be played using Microsoft's free PowerPoint Viewer software, or using the PowerPoint software's slideshow feature. OpenOffice.org, a free and open source office suite from Sun Microsystems can also play and edit these files, as well as export to the .pps or .ppt formats. Other programs to view .pps slideshows include PowerPoint Viewer ActiveX from Viscom Software, PowerPoint Viewer OCX, Microsoft Word Perfect, and Portable PowerPoint Viewer. A great tool for showing .pps slideshows without using a computer is AVerEPack300 from AVerMedia. This small console loads the .pps from a flash drive, then displays the slideshow using the embedded software.

Errors with .pps files can range from improperly displayed slides to corrupted data, making the slideshow unusable. Office 2003 contains a bug that won't allow it to open projects containing Office 2000 clip art, including .pps slideshows. Microsoft issued an update to fix this, so users who encounter this error should visit the company website and apply all updates. Reports also suggest that due to the use of ActiveX and other technologies, PowerPoint presentations are especially vulnerable to virus attacks. It is suggested that users always scan a .pps acquired from an outside source before opening it.

ArcView, the second program associated with the .pps extension, is a geographic information package for creating, analyzing, managing, and displaying geographical information. The .pps files in ArcView are files relating to processing set codes used to manage the various types of data in a given project. The .pps files are linked to other files within a project and are needed for the project data to be displayed or managed correctly. Missing or damaged .pps files will make the project unusable. This file format is proprietary to the ArcView software and cannot be utilized outside of that environment. No widespread reports of errors have been found with these files.

Paint Shop Pro is the third program using the .pps extension, in this case for its proprietary image format. Paint Shop Pro is a vector based graphics program similar to Photoshop, and acquired by Corel from JASC software. The .pps files cannot be opened or edited using any other software. Errors often occur due to conflicting file associations within Windows. By default Windows associates .pps with PowerPoint, so double-clicking a .pps graphic often results in Windows opening the Office suite or Word Perfect. It is not recommended for users to change this association unless absolutely necessary.

The last program using the .pps extension is Personal Producer Storyboard, an old presentation-type software package that is no longer produced or supported. Exactly what this file format was and how it was used in unknown. No further information about the software is available.
